My path to real estate was far from linear, but how many career paths are?

I grew up in Southwest Minneapolis and Edina. I attended Northwestern University for undergrad, where I originally thought I'd be a neonatologist. Not exactly houses! However, as I moved through college, my focus shifted, and I ended up attending the University of St. Thomas for law school. It was there that I was introduced to Property and Real Estate Law. These were areas that not only intrigued me but where I excelled. I earned a number of Dean's Awards for top grades in those classes.

During law school I worked for a Real Estate Attorney and had the opportunity to learn the exciting business of title examinations, a great background for a realtor!

After law school I worked as a Real Estate Analyst for Target. I worked on approvals for existing stores as well as closings for new stores. It was a fantastic job. I worked with wonderful people, had great learning opportunities, and enjoyed what I did. However, I always hoped that I would be able to find a job that would allow me to not only work but also be home with my kids, and the corporate world didn't afford me that luxury.

And so, I made the decision to get my real estate license. The rest is history!

I'm now in my nineteenth year with Coldwell Banker Realty. It is an exciting, crazy, fun job, and I love it! I have met some of my closest friends this way and I've been able to be mostly present in my kids' lives too. I can't imagine another full-time job with these perks!
